Dept of Industries & Commerce Ladakh & HEPC organize 2-day promotional event as part of Vanijya Utsav; MoS Home Affairs AK Mishra inaugurate the event

 

Leh, Sep 21: With the aim to promote commercial potential of Ladakh’s local products, the Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), Ministry of Textile, GoI, organised a two day event as part of Vanijya Utsav 2021.

 

The MoS, Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Lt. Governor RK Mathur, as the Guest of Honour for the event.

 

Addressing the occasion, the Minister stressed on the potential of Ladakhi handloom, handicrafts and other sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, food processing etc. He stated that GoI acknowledges concerns such as that of connectivity, technical assistance and assured that under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who has envisioned the concept ‘Vocal for Local’, Ladakh will be provided with all required support to project its potential at the national and international level.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor stressed on Ladakh’s development policy which focuses on the primary sectors and added that the growth of this sector will create a sea of opportunities, especially for the capable youth of Ladakh.

 

Referring to Ladakh’s richs history as part of the famed Silk Route, LG Mathur spoke of the cosmopolitan influences on Ladakh. He said that it is proper to revive that culture and legacy. Development however needs to be made as per the aims and ambitions of the people of Ladakh.

 

Addressing the gathering, CEC Tashi Gyalson expressed his gratitude to the Minister of State for Home Affairs for gracing the occasion. He stated that the first-generation entrepreneurs have received a satisfactory platform that reflects from their presentations. He stressed on the need for an Industrial policy specially tailored for Ladakh and highlighted the need of a single-window system for the young entrepreneurs and the producers to overcome certain challenges that they have been facing till now. He also spoke about several initiatives from the Hill Council to encourage entrepreneurs and promote local products in the region.

 

Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal appreciated the Department of Industry & Commerce, Ladakh for organizing this event. He said that through this event, the commercial value of local products will increase and will also help in the promotion of exports. Further, he said that this will improve the business environment and also attract foreign investment. He congratulated the people of Ladakh for exporting fresh apricots to Dubai for the first time.

 

Secretary, Industries & Commerce, UT Ladakh, Saugat Biswas in his welcome speech stated that the aim of this event is to promote local products like pashmina, sea buckthorn, apricot and others which have promising commercial potential and added that the Department endeavours in taking Ladakhi products to national as well as international markets.

 

Director, Industries and Commerce, Ladakh, Moses Kunzang said that this event is an effort to promote our entrepreneurs and to provide platforms for the budding entrepreneurs. Terming this event special, he said that various export promotion councils in Ladakh and our entrepreneurs were introduced to them during the event.

 

During the event, Director in charge, Indian Institute of Packaging, Dr Tanweer Alam gave a presentation on unleashing the potential of Ladakh’s products role of packaging. He spoke about the contribution towards packaging education and training, association with leading brands, MOU with national research and academic institutions and major ongoing projects.

 

The Executive Director, HEPC, N Sreedhar also presented data on HEPC activities related to promotion and research of handloom and allied sectors.

 

The other dignitaries present during the event were Advisor to LG, Umang Narula; Principal Secretary, Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner Secretary, Ajeet Kumar Sahu; Ravinder Kumar; Administrative Secretary, Mehboob Ali Khan and DC Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse.
