DIPR Kargil organizes one day workshop on media reporting, photography, GeM/GST

Joint Director, Information, Ladakh appreciates DIPR Kargil team for playing vital role in dissemination of information

Kargil, June 08, 2023: As part of a series of events, Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Kargil today organized a One-Day Media Workshop on General Media Reporting, Photography Skills and Government e-Market procurement/GST at Hotel The Kargil which was attended by all employees of the department.

Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho was the chief guest and Assistant Director Information, Kargil, Padma Angmo was also present. Editor and Founder of Stawa Magazine, Sunetro Ghosal, Photographer and Film Maker, Iftikhar Hussain, Assistant Accounts Officer of Directorate of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department (RD&PRD), Ladakh, Muhammed Hussain were the resource persons of the workshop.

Photo Officer, Haji Ahmed Khan, Assistant Exhibition-Cum-Cultural Officer, Mohammad Musa, Editor, Reporters, Photographers, staff of DIPR-Kargil, staff of NIC Kargil besides others also attended the workshop.

In his key note address, the Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho highlighted the role and endeavours of DIPR- Kargil and appreciated the sincere efforts of the staff in turning the department into a force to reckon with.

He said under the supervision of Commissioner/Secretary, DIPR Ladakh, Padma Angmo, IIS the department has scaled new heights of progress adding that there has been no looking back since she took charge way back in 2021.

Kacho also highlighted the achievements of DIPR-Kargil including the bi-monthly magazine Kargil Nama headed by Padma Angmo with the editorial supervision of its Editor, Mansoor Peer and also hailed the coverage of different events by the department in Kargil District.

He also appreciated the efforts of DIPR-Kargil and said the department has been playing a pivotal role in the dissemination of information in the District.

Explaining the role of media in society, the Joint Director said media is the fourth pillar of democracy and it acts as a bridge between the Government and the general public.

He said such capacity-building programmes will continue to be organized in future as well for the DIPR staff and media persons of Kargil. He said resource persons had a productive interaction and hoped that the workshop would help enhance and upgrade skills of staff and media team of DIPR Kargil.

In the morning session, Editor and Founder of Stawa Magazine, Sunetro Ghosal, spoke at length about the art of writing and the challenges in journalism in Ladakh.

He also discussed the format of writing press releases, writing in-depth stories, structure and style of writing and ethics. Ghoshal also spoke about creative writing and difference between hard news and feature writing.

A Question & Answer Session was also held during which Ghoshal answered the questions of the participants in an interactive and effective manner.

Photographer and Film Maker, Iftikhar Hussain gave a presentation on basic fundamentals of photography, hard and soft light and handling camera while covering news. He also discussed use of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc. and shared his experiences.

Iftikhar talked about various methods and tricks that are helpful, especially during challenging times for photographers. He also threw light on history of photography and displayed various historical award-winning photographs across the world.

The media part of the workshop focussed on sensitization and capacity building of DIPR staff while the role of media in the age of information technology was discussed threadbare.

In the afternoon session, Muhammad Hussain, Assistant Accounts Officer, Directorate of Rural Development Department, Ladakh spoke about Government e-Market (GeM) procurement and their relevant sections of General Financial Rule (GFR) 2017.

Earlier, Assistant Director, Information, Kargil, Padma Angmo presented the welcome speech and briefed the participants about the importance of the workshop. She said that the capacity building workshop was aimed at upgrading skills and help staff of DIPR Kargil compete with the new challenges of modern age. She said the programne will enhance the professional and personal growth of the staff.

Murtaza Fazili, Reporter, DIPR Kargil, conducted the programme’s proceedings and presented vote of thanks. The participating employees thanked Joint Director, Information, Ladakh and Assistant Director, Information, Kargil for organizing the workshop and hoped that such workshops should be organized in the future as well to improve the skills of staff for better functioning of the department.
