Director Animal/Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries, Dr Mohd Iqbal visits trout fish farm Khachan, Damsna, takes stock of progress of ongoing works

Kargil, June 09, 2024:

Director Animal /Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, UT Ladakh, Dr. Mohd Iqbal during his extensive tour of Kargil from June 07 today visited Trout Fish Farm Khachan and Damsna to take stock of progress of ongoing works and review various developmental activities being implemented under various schemes of District Capex/SDP and State Plan.

While expressing satisfaction over the functioning of the fish farms, the director commended Assistant Director Fisheries and other officials for the development of various infrastructure and improving the fish production.  

He emphasized to prepare a comprehensive plan/DPR for expansion and to explore the potential to its fullest by converting fish farm Damsna into multidimensional venture with beautification of landscape, addition of recreational infrastructures of aquariums and angling facilities beside routine annual production of fish.

The director also visited Karakul Sheep Farm Khumbathang and inspected all the livestock sections of the farm and expressed his satisfaction over the health condition of the livestock & functioning of the farm. After thorough inspection, he impressed upon the scope of fodder development and measures for prevention of inbreeding at the farm.

While briefing, Dr Niyaz Lone, Officer Incharge put forth a proposal for Bahak allowance in favour of the officials who are engaged with seasonal grazing of live stocks in the pastures to which the director agreed to full fill their demand keeping in view the significance of grazing is perceived as backbone of sheep husbandry.

During the tour, the director was accompanied by Dr Iftiqar Hussain, JD Sheep Husbandry Department UT Ladakh; Dr Gulzar Hussain CAHO, Kargil; Murtaza Ali, AD Fisheries Kargil, Dr Zakir Hussain representative of DSHO Kargil and other officials.
