Founder of Arces of Ice Calls on EC Kargil; Presents Innovative Water Management Solutions

Kargil, December 16, 2025:

Basit Afzal, Founder of Arces of Ice, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Jaffer Akhoon Kacho Mohd Feroz, and presented a detailed briefing on innovative, data-driven solutions aimed at improving water management and strengthening agricultural resilience in the high-altitude regions of Ladakh.

During the meeting, Basit Afzal showcased a scalable and sustainable model for the construction of artificial, automated water reservoirs specifically designed for cold desert and high-altitude terrains. The proposed technology focuses on addressing the growing challenge of water scarcity while supporting traditional livelihoods and enabling local communities to adapt effectively to the impacts of climate change.

The Executive Councillor appreciated the initiative and congratulated the founder, co-founder, and team of Arces of Ice for developing a much-needed solution for regions like Ladakh. He emphasized that with rapidly changing climatic patterns, declining groundwater levels, and shrinking natural water sources, such innovative technologies could play a crucial role in ensuring long-term water security for the region.

Dr Kacho Mohd Feroz further suggested initiating capacity-building and training programmes for officials from departments such as Irrigation & Flood Control and Public Health Engineering (PHE), along with interested members of local communities. He stressed that empowering local stakeholders with the necessary skills would ensure effective utilization, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of the technology.

Highlighting the importance of forward-looking planning, the Executive Councillor underscored the need for a comprehensive and sustainable vision for Ladakh to tackle future water-related challenges. He also expressed optimism about potential collaboration with Arces of Ice in the near future to address the region’s pressing water concerns in a systematic and lasting manner.
