New Delhi, 16 December 2025:
Ladakhβs political activist and Incharge Political Affairs, Jamiat Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil, Sajjad Hussain Kargili on Tuesday met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum demanding for the establishment of a General Administration Department (GAD) Camp Office in Kargil, terming it a matter of administrative justice and equal governance.
During the meeting, Sajjad Kargili conveyed that despite Kargil being one of the two districts of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the continued absence of a GAD Camp Office has resulted in a serious administrative disconnect. He said that residents and public representatives from Drass, Kargil, Sankoo, Barsoo, Suru, Batalik-Sodh, Zanskar, Shakar-Chiktan and other areas are compelled to travel repeatedly to Leh for grievance redressal, follow-up on development works, and urgent administrative interventions.
He highlighted that such travel imposes an undue financial and physical burden on the people, particularly in view of Ladakhβs rugged terrain and extreme weather conditions. βThe situation becomes even more alarming during winter months, when road connectivity between Kargil and Leh remains disrupted for long periods,β he pointed out.
Sajjad Kargili also flagged the absence of a Government Sarai or Guest House in Leh exclusively for people from Kargil, stating that citizens face severe accommodation hardships while pursuing official work, further deepening the sense of regional neglect.
Terming the demand as essential for balanced regional development, he asserted that the establishment of a GAD Camp Office in Kargil would strengthen administrative outreach, ensure faster grievance redressal to decentralised and people-centric governance. He added that such an office would play an important role during emergencies and winter isolation.
The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured that efforts would be made to address the genuine grievances of the people of Ladakh, including Kargil. Sajjad Kargili also urged the LG to visit Kargil again, to which LG assured to visit Kargil in the near future.
