GDC Drass organizes program on Sustainable Development under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Kargil, June 28, 2023: Department of Geology and Physics, GDC Drass today organized a program on Sustainable Development under the concept of LIFE with the event title “Lecture on Future Prospects of Renewable Energy in Ladakh” under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The program was moderated by Mumtaz Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Physics who briefly elaborated on the event’s title. Waheeda Rehman Mir, Assistant Professor (Geology) presented a lecture on the Geothermal Energy resources in Ladakh.

She also appraised the students about the potential of geothermal energy sources in Ladakh in places like Puga and Chumathang. She further explained how to harness the untapped geothermal energy to electricity.

Sajjad Hussain, Assistant Professor (EVS) presented a general talk on renewable energy and its importance. His lecture stressed on different sources of renewable energy such as Solar, Wind and Geothermal energy and also their importance in our daily life.

Further, he also requested the young learners to avoid the careless waste of energy and instead inculcate the habit to save energy.

Mumtaz Ahmad briefly illuminated about solar energy and its potential in Ladakh. He expounded on meeting the energy crisis in Ladakh by making wise and intelligent use of such resources. The lecture was followed by a question-and-answer session.

In the end, Shabir Hussain, Assistant Professor (Commerce) presented vote of thanks to all the participants. He also thanked the Department of Geology and Physics, GDC Drass for organising the informative and important program for the students.
