GDC Kargil successfully organizes Student Council Election for 2024-25

Kargil, July 30, 2024: Govt. Degree College Kargil today successfully conducted the Student Council Election for the academic session 2024-25. The election was held for the positions of President, Vice-President and General Secretary.

For the Presidential post, three candidates contested: Khatija Tamanna 5th Semester, Ahsan Ali 3rd Semester, and Ali Abbas 5th Semester. The Vice Presidential post saw two candidates: Zahid Hussain 5th Semester and Mohammad 1st Semester.

The position of General Secretary was uncontested, resulting in Mehboob Ali being declared the winner by default.

The voting process commenced at 10:30 a.m. and concluded at 1:30 p.m. Voting was held at three different polling booths, designated for students of 1st, 3rd, and 5th Semester. The counting of votes began at 2:30 p.m. and the results were announced at 4:00 p.m.

A total of 329 votes were cast for the Presidential post. Ali Abbas emerged victorious with 123 votes, followed by Ahsan Ali with 112 votes and Khatija Tamanna with 94 votes.

For the Vice Presidential post, 323 votes were cast, out of which Mohammad secured the vice president post with 177 votes, while Zahid Hussain garnered 146 votes.

The election process was organized by the College Election Committee, led by Prof. MNM Shabani as Returning Officer and Prof. Zuhoor Hussain as Assistant Returning Officer. They were supported by Syed Mustafa Kamal and Haider Ali Askary, Assistant Professors of Geography and Sociology, respectively.

The committee extended gratitude to the Principal for the unwavering support and guidance throughout the process.

The event was marked by enthusiastic participation from the students, showcasing the democratic spirit and commitment to student governance at GDC Kargil.

In the end, all the contestants were felicitated with traditional khataks. The Returning Officer announced that the certification and oath taking ceremony shall be held in the College Seminar Hall on 01.08.2024 at 02:00 p.m. in presence of Principal, faculty members and students.
