GDC Zanskar Organises Mentor–Mentee Programme in Collaboration with Himalayan Volunteer Tourism

Zanskar, October 30, 2026: Government Degree College (GDC), Zanskar, under the patronage of Principal Dr Amjad Ali Abbasi, organised a Mentor–Mentee Programme at the College Conference Hall on October 30, 2026, in collaboration with Himalayan Volunteer Tourism (HVT), an organisation committed to strengthening Himalayan communities through community engagement and capacity building.

The programme commenced with the address of Principal Dr Amjad Ali Abbasi, who highlighted the importance of student mentorship, personal development and the role of proper guidance in helping young people recognise and realise their potential.

The HVT team introduced the organisation and its vision through Ms Mahima, Co-founder of HVT. Subsequently, Ms Anshu, Head of Community Development, delivered a session on “What Can HVT Offer Students?”, outlining the opportunities and support available to students through the organisation.

Mr Nikhil conducted an interactive session on “Understanding Your Aspirations”, encouraging students to reflect on their interests, ambitions and future goals. He also explained the structure and functioning of the Mentor–Mentee Programme and highlighted how students could benefit from sustained mentorship. Ms Anupama, a mentor at HVT, also shared insights into the guidance, support and platforms that could be extended to the students of GDC Zanskar.

An interactive question-and-answer session provided students with an opportunity to seek clarifications, share their aspirations and engage directly with the HVT team.

The programme concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Dr Azra Khatoon, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Convener of the Student Well-being and Mentor–Mentee Committee. She encouraged students to actively participate in the initiative and make the best use of the mentoring opportunities. She also coordinated the programme.

The initiative aimed at promoting student well-being, strengthening mentorship and creating meaningful opportunities for the holistic development of students through institutional collaboration.

The programme marked a constructive step towards strengthening the college’s engagement with organisations working for the development of Himalayan communities and empowering students through guidance, mentorship and capacity building.
