International Women’s Day Celebrates at EJM College, Leh

Leh, March 7, 2025: EJM College, Leh, in collaboration with the Fire and Fury Gunners, celebrated International Women’s Day under the banner of the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) to inspire students and highlight the importance of women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Ms. Shruti Arora, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The celebration commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal of EJM College.

Lieutenant K. Nivedita of the 129 SATA Regiment shared her journey of becoming an Army officer, inspiring students to pursue their dreams with determination. This was followed by an address from the Chief Guest, Ms. Shruti Arora, IPS, who emphasized self-belief, independence, and the need to strive for autonomy in life.

At the event drawing competition was followed on the theme “Accelerating Action,” providing students with a platform to express their thoughts on gender equality and empowerment.

Lt. Colonel Anil Kumar of the 129 SATA Regiment felicitated dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, the Principal, and special guests such as Ms. Nilza Wangmo, Nari Shakti Puraskar awardee and founder of Alchi Kitchen, along with representatives from the Women’s Alliance of Ladakh, for their contributions toward women’s empowerment in the region.

The Chief Guest and the Principal then awarded rank holders from the competitions and recognized NCC cadets and NSS volunteers for their participation in the Republic Day Camp 2025 and the Mount Everest Expedition training camp. The cadets and volunteers shared their experiences, encouraging fellow students to engage with NCC and NSS for personal and leadership development.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Professor Sabah Sharif, Convenor of GSCASH, EJM College.
