L-G VK Saxena Pays Homage to Police Martyrs in Leh

Leh, October 21: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday paid homage to police martyrs by laying a wreath at the Police Memorial during Police Commemoration Day observed at District Police Lines, Leh.

The annual observance on October 21 commemorates the sacrifice of 10 CRPF personnel who were martyred during an encounter with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959. The day honours police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect the nation and its citizens.

Ladakh Police also paid tribute to seven personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while serving the region: Late Inspector Tsewang Namgial, Late Sub-Inspector Stanzin Norboo, Late Assistant Sub-Inspector Sonam Dorjay, Late Constable Ghulam Abass, Late Constable Shabir Hussain, Late Constable Zulfikar Ali and Late Constable Mohammad Raza. The Roll of Honour was read out in their memory.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to police martyrs across the country, including personnel of Ladakh Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces and intelligence agencies. He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to their welfare, dignity and continued support.

The Lieutenant Governor appreciated Ladakh Police for maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety despite the region’s challenging terrain, extreme cold and remote settlements. He highlighted the force’s role in disaster response, winter road blockades, high-altitude rescues and emergencies involving residents and tourists.

A blood donation camp was also organised as part of the commemoration.

Chief Secretary Shri Ashish Kundra, DGP Ladakh Police Shri Anand Jain, senior police officials and family members of the martyrs attended the ceremony.
