Ladakh Education Fair 2022 celebrated at GMDC Zanskar

Kargil, August 19, 2022: Lieutenant Governor, UT Ladakh R K Mathur today virtually inaugurated the first of its kind Ladakh Education Fair 2022 which was simultaneously streamed in all the constituent colleges in Ladakh.

The event is aimed to reach out to students with reliable information about career opportunities, scholarships, skill development, apprenticeship etc. through interactive session and displaying exhibitions and directly interacting with experts.

In his the Lieutenant Governor applauded Secretary Higher Education Department Madam Padma Angmo for organizing the impressive event for the benefit of the students of Ladakh.

He urged the youth of Ladakh to make career in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries which are the primary sector of economy in the region.

He further advised to make the Education Fair a permanent feature for the department. Padma Angmo and C Phontsog Ex Vice-Chancellor University of Ladakh also shared their wisdom.

The GMDC Zanskar is one of other five colleges of Ladakh hosting this impressive Ladakh Education Fair 2022.

The inaugural session was attended by the Lieutenant Governor through virtual medium in the college campus. College’s principal MNM Shabani welcomed the invited dignitaries, guest, resource persons and students.

Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Phuntsok Tashi was the guest of honour and Padma Shri Awardee Tsultim Chonjur graced as special guest.

In his speech, EC Tashi appreciated the college administration for organizing the Education Fair in the college campus. He emphasized on the need of skill-based education.

The inaugural function was concluded by vote of thanks presented by Mohd Ishaq, Assistant Professor.

Many departments including KVK, SKAUST, Revenue Department, ICDS, J&K Bank, State Bank and many other associations including Sowa Rigpa, Zanskar Ski School, Thanka Painting and ethnic food exhibition by the college students were displayed and provided all the needed reliable information to the students as well as the respected dignitaries.

In the second session, a panel discussion with the title “Zanskar in Transition: the Way Forward” was conducted wherein panellists Rigzin BDO Zanskar, Phontsog Dawa Historian Zanskar and Ghulam Abass Chairman Model Public School Zanskar made a detailed discussion on the topic and oriented the participants about how the society of Zanskar evolved with the passage of time and what impact caused on the society due to the modern growth and development.

Questions were also raised by the audience which were answered by the panellists. Dr Tashi Lundup Assistant Professor Moderated the panel discussion.

In the 3rd session, Dr Abdul Hamid Assistant Professor delivered a detailed presentation on Pre and Post Matric Scholarship. Murtaza Librarian College also spoke about PMSSS.

In the 4th session, Urgain Dorjay President Zanskar Ski School delivered a talk on the topic “Scope of Winter Sports and Tourism” in Zanskar. He emphasized that winter sports is also a good career option for the younger generation.

At the ends students visited library and sports department of the college.

The two-day event is organized by the Department of Higher Education UT Ladakh in collaboration with the University of Ladakh, Department of Technical Education and Skill Development and supported by the Department of Information.
