The event highlights the remarkable achievements of the cooperative sector while opening doors to new opportunities for sustainable economic growth in the region.
Strengthening Ladakh’s Rural Economy
Addressing participants at the inauguration, the Lt Governor emphasised that the Cooperative Trade Fair is not just a platform to present the accomplishments of Ladakh’s cooperative societies but also an important step toward identifying new avenues of development.
He underscored the critical role of cooperatives in Ladakh’s unique and challenging geography, where Consumer, Marketing, and Agricultural Societies ensure:
Availability of essential commodities Supply of fertilizers, vermi-compost, and agricultural inputs Distribution of vegetables and fruits during harsh winters Fair market access for local producers
These efforts, he said, demonstrate how the cooperative movement has evolved into a pillar of Ladakh’s rural economy, promoting resilience and self-reliance among communities.
Ladakh’s Strong Participation in International Year of Cooperatives 2025
Highlighting the United Nations declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives, LG Gupta expressed pride in Ladakh’s proactive involvement in cooperative initiatives. Several new programmes and activities have accelerated local empowerment, including:
Inauguration of cafeteria-cum-showrooms Awareness workshops in Hanley and Khaltsi Distribution of milking machines to dairy farmers School-level cooperative awareness programmes Organic manure drives and mass plantation campaigns Fruit and vegetable processing demonstrations
These initiatives aim to equip Ladakh’s communities with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed for self-reliance and inclusive development.
Aligned With National Vision of Cooperative Growth
Recalling the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Lt Governor invoked the slogan “Sahakar Se Samriddhi”, symbolising how cooperatives drive prosperity through unity, partnership, and sustainable practices.
He noted that the Cooperative Trade Fair 2025 stands as a powerful expression of India’s collective resolve to strengthen cooperative-based development models that ensure economic progress, social harmony, and shared growth.
