Leh: In a significant boost to Ladakh’s strategic road infrastructure, Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta attended the inauguration ceremony of the highly awaited Shayok Tunnel along with 125 new Border Roads Organisation (BRO) projects. The projects were formally inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Rinchen Auditorium in Leh.

The new infrastructure initiatives are expected to greatly enhance strategic connectivity, border mobility, and all-weather access to high-altitude regions. The Shayok Tunnel, in particular, is seen as a game-changer for ensuring reliable movement of troops, supplies, and civilians in the sensitive border sector.
Addressing the gathering, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the government’s continued commitment to strengthening border infrastructure, noting that improved connectivity is crucial for both national security and local development.

Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta also highlighted the importance of these projects for the people of Ladakh, stating that the new facilities will support economic growth, tourism, and overall regional development.
The inauguration marks another milestone in BRO’s mission to build durable and modern infrastructure in some of the most challenging terrains of the country.
