CEC Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Unveils “Whispers of Ladakh” Book by Kacho Jaffer Ali Khan in Kargil

The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, inaugurated the book “Whispers of Ladakh” authored and illustrated by Kacho Jaffer Ali Khan during a ceremony held at the Tourism Facilitation Centre (TFC), Biamathang.

The event witnessed the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Ladakh MP Haji Mohd Haneefa Jaan as the Guest of Honour and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS) as the Special Guest.

Leaders Praise the Book’s Cultural Importance

While addressing the audience, CEC Akhoon applauded the author and his family, expressing that the launch marks a proud moment for Ladakh. He emphasized that the book makes a significant contribution to safeguarding the region’s cultural and linguistic roots. According to him, “Whispers of Ladakh” stands as a valuable resource for generations to come, offering detailed insights into Ladakh’s artifacts, customs, attire, tools, and traditional practices through rich visual representation.

He further highlighted that the book serves as an important visual record of how Ladakhis lived, worked, dressed, cooked, and carried forward traditions across various periods. He commended the author’s dedication, noting that such efforts play a vital role in preserving the identity of Ladakh.

Dignitaries Applaud the Author’s Efforts

MP Haji Mohd Haneefa Jaan extended his heartfelt congratulations to the author, praising the hard work behind the publication. He described the book as a precious cultural asset that will benefit society at large.

Special Guest Rakesh Kumar (IAS) also appreciated the initiative, stating that works like these—rooted in community history and heritage—hold immense value for future generations in understanding Ladakh’s cultural journey.

Whispers of Ladakh: An Illustrated Chronicle of Ladakh’s Fashion, Tools and Artifacts in the Local Tongue is a unique documentation of Ladakh’s traditional vocabulary and cultural expressions. The book records local terms used for everyday items—many of which are slowly disappearing from modern usage—and brings them to life through simple, hand-drawn sketches.

The publication is seen as an important step in reviving and preserving Ladakh’s traditional identity in an accessible and visually engaging manner.
