Kargil, February 14, 2026 — Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, Dr. Sarwar Shahzad, JKAS, conducted a surprise inspection of restaurants and food stalls from Bus Stand to Lal Chowk and Old Hospital Road, Kargil, to ensure compliance with food safety standards, hygiene, and cleanliness norms.
During the inspection, the Executive Officer specifically checked the use of Ajinomoto (monosodium glutamate) in momos and other food items, noting that its usage is injurious to health.
As part of the checking drive, fines amounting to Rs 6,000 were imposed on violators. The Executive Officer directed restaurant owners and food stall operators to strictly adhere to food safety regulations and maintain proper standards of hygiene and quality.
