Mission Shakti Launches ‘Waste to Art’ Training Programme for Women in Kargil

Kargil, February 11, 2026: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Department of Social & Tribal Welfare, Kargil, in collaboration with the Handicrafts Department, Kargil, today inaugurated a Waste to Art Training Programme at the Handicrafts Hall, Kargil.

More than 15 trainees from different Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and six trainees identified through the One Stop Centre (OSC) are participating in this one-month training programme.

The programme was graced by Nargis Banoo, District Programme Officer, ICDS Projects, Kargil, and Raziya Khatoon, Assistant Director, Handicrafts Department, Kargil, along with Mr. Gulzar Ali and Mr Abdul Hussain Handicrafts Training Officer.

Speaking on the occasion, Raziya Khatoon highlighted the significance of Waste to Art initiatives undertaken by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Kargil. She emphasized that such training programmes not only promote creativity but also contribute to environmental sustainability and income generation.

Nargis Banoo stressed the importance of converting waste materials into useful and decorative items. She encouraged the beneficiaries to make optimal use of the techniques imparted during the training to achieve empowerment and self-reliance.

Zahra Batool, Trainer from the Handicrafts Department, delivered a brief introduction and demonstrated practical techniques for efficiently transforming waste materials into attractive decorative products.

The training programme aims to enhance skills, promote sustainable practices, and create livelihood opportunities for women in the district.
