CSB-CSR&TI Pampore, in collaboration with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Kargil, successfully organised a Mulberry Production Technology Demonstration Programme under the National Campaign on Gender Literacy. The training session took place at Marpo-Thang village in Trespone, Kargil, drawing participation from 42 stakeholders, most of whom were women members of local Self Help Groups (SHGs).

Focus on Practical Skill Development
The programme emphasised hands-on training, enabling participants to gain practical knowledge crucial for mulberry cultivation. The demonstrations covered:
Soil sampling techniques Pit preparation for mulberry planting Raising and nurturing mulberry saplings
Experts guided farmers on best practices tailored to local climatic conditions, ensuring long-term sustainability of mulberry plantations.
Encouraging Farmers Towards Mulberry Cultivation
Officials motivated farmers to grow mulberry on their own land to support the region’s expanding sericulture sector. A steady and reliable supply of mulberry leaves is essential for silkworm rearing, making mulberry cultivation a backbone of sericulture.
By encouraging community participation—especially through SHGs—the programme aims to:
Strengthen local livelihoods Enhance raw material availability for silk production Promote gender-inclusive economic growth in rural Ladakh

Boost to Sericulture in the Union Territory
The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the expansion and strengthening of sericulture activities in Ladakh, creating new opportunities for income generation and rural development.
With increasing focus on skill development and sustainable agriculture, Ladakh continues to make strides toward empowering local communities and building a resilient rural economy.
