Over 450 Participate in First-Ever Turtuk Valley Minithon to Promote Drug-Free India

Turtuk, October: More than 450 participants took part in the first-ever Turtuk Valley Minithon, organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at New Polo Ground, Chutang, Turtuk, to promote awareness about substance abuse and encourage fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

The event was organised and sponsored by AFAC Trust, Mumbai, with the support of Friends Club, Turtuk, and in association with Yog Guru Shri Naveen Meghwal.

The minithon was held in two categories — a 12-km full minithon from Thang to New Polo Ground, Turtuk, and a 6-km half minithon from Army Goodwill School, Tyakshi, to the same venue.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three finishers in both categories, separately for male and female participants. In the 12-km category, the first, second and third prize winners received ₹25,000, ₹20,000 and ₹15,000, respectively. In the 6-km category, the prizes were ₹12,500, ₹10,000 and ₹7,500, respectively.

The event witnessed participation not only from Turtuk and nearby villages but also from Diskit, Sumur and Army personnel, reflecting the spirit of unity and collective commitment towards the cause. Adding to the enthusiasm, almost every villager was seen standing along the roads, cheering for the athletes and encouraging them throughout the run.

The event aimed to encourage young people to adopt sports and physical activity as alternatives to substance abuse. The participation of over 450 individuals highlighted community engagement in promoting fitness, discipline and a drug-free society.

The run began in Thang, near the Line of Control, adding significance to the initiative by carrying the message of a healthier and drug-free India from a remote border region.

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is a Government of India initiative aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse and strengthening efforts to build a drug-free society.

Organisers said the minithon marked an important step towards expanding public awareness and encouraging community participation in the fight against substance abuse in Turtuk Valley.
