Pedalling for Hope: Cycling Across India to Conquer Cancer”
In a world, where emotions weave the threads of human connection, I, Dr Babul Pathak, a 67-year-old retired Geoscientist of the Geological Survey of India and alumnus of Guwahati University and International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences, Netherlands, will embark on a profoundly heartfelt mission to spread awareness and hope to all cancer patients and their families by cycling across India.
I am driven by the tragic loss of my beloved wife, Dr. Suchitra Pathak, who succumbed to breast cancer metastasis in the month of February 2023.
With a heart filled with determination, I will set out on my bicycle to traverse the diverse landscapes of india. From the breathtaking heights of Ladakh’s Khardungla to the serene shores of Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, and further westward from Gujarat’s Dwarka to my hometown in Assam. This poignant odyssey will not merely be a journey of miles but a journey of hope—a journey driven by the memory of my beloved wife, Dr. Suchitra Pathak. With each revolution of my bicycle wheels, I will carry a profound sense of purpose and determination, resonating through the very fabric of my being to stir souls and kindle hope among cancer patients and their families.
In the shadows of pain, I have found strength from her extraordinary battle with breast cancer, a battle fought with resilience and courage that echoes in the depths of my soul. Through valleys and mountains, I will traverse the diverse tapestry of India, guided by an unyielding passion to share my strength, experiences, spread awareness and ignite a flicker of hope in hearts burdened by cancer’s weight
As I pedal across the vast expanse of the country, I will visit Institutions dedicated in-patient care and offer my gratitude to the medical warriors who tirelessly battle on, and provides warmth of compassion to the Cancer patients. I will also reach out to patients and their families on the way, facing the harsh realities of illness to share my story and offer a glimmer of hope amidst the darkest of nights.
Driven by the love of my sons, Sabyasachi and Vijay, the bonds of family will propel me forward, united in a shared pursuit of making a difference—one compassionate gesture at a time.
My journey will echo the legacy of my late wife, Suchitra—an inspiration of strength, resilience and determination; a testament to never relinquish hope and that, all the life’s challenges can be met with unwavering courage, for within each soul resides a resilient spirit, crafted by the hands of a higher power.
