Principal Secretary, IT Dept Ladakh reviews Implementation of Community Radio Network

Leh, November 23: Principal Secretary, IT Department, Ladakh, Sanjeev Khirwar chaired a meeting in his office chamber to review the implementation of the Community Radio Network in Ladakh.

At the outset, AGM, BECIL, Khushwinder Singh Bhatia, explained the architecture of the Community Radio Network to the Principal Secretary and apprised him about the survey conducted by the BECIL Team in the 29 locations across the UT of Ladakh.

As per the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, the Principal Secretary instructed the BECIL team to include locations nearby government schools where there is remote or no connectivity and apply for licenses accordingly.

Principal Secretary instructed the School Education and IT Department officials to identify some new locations and replace them with the already identified location. Priority should be given to locations where there is no connectivity or minimal connectivity and the same shall be communicated to the BECIL team at the earliest, he added.

Assistant General Manager, requested the Principal Secretary to allot space for warehouse in Leh and Kargil to keep the items such as UPS, VAST, etc. Principal Secretary instructed the Director SED to arrange space in Leh and Kargil as required for the warehouse for BECIL team.

The BECIL Team gave their commitment that they will start the project civil /tower erection work from March 2023 due to the closure of the working season in Ladakh and has also committed that all the Licenses shall be obtained from the Ministry of Communication by March 2023.

Further, Principal Secretary instructed the SED to send all the pending documents from the Schools to the BECIL team for license application at the earliest. Principal Secretary instructed Director, SED to build the civil infrastructural in the schools which are required for community Radio equipment installation at the earliest and also suggested allocating the work to the concerned government agency as per the requirement of BECIL for the project.

The meeting was attended by Director, School Education Department, Ladakh, Safdar Ali; General Manager, BECIL, WB Prashad; AGM, BECIL, Khuswinder Singh Bhatia; Project Manager, BECIL, Mukul Kumar; Project Engineer, Swarna Upadhyayula, BECIL; Project Engineer, BECIL, Ravi Prakash, Kumar Amit, IT Consultant and Stanzin Angmo, IT Manager concerned from IT Dept, Ladakh.
