KARGIL,JUNE 11 : Over 100 contractual teachers recruited under the Samagra Shiksha gathered today at Gandhi Park, Baroo, Kargil to protest the delay in their salary disbursements.
The teachers, representing various subjects, raised their demands for justice with the slogan, “We want justice.”
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil, Mr. SD Namgyal, addressed the gathering and stated that an accounts officer has been deputed at the ministry specifically to handle the salaries of Samagra teachers. He mentioned that multiple letters have been sent to the Director of School Education, Ladakh, and the Director in Delhi to resolve this issue.
A representative from the teachers, speaking to the Ladakh Times, highlighted the financial difficulties faced by the educators. “We have too many expenses and are serving our duties far from home. The delay in salary makes it extremely difficult to manage,” he said. He also pointed out that many teachers from Zanskar are incurring additional costs such as room rent and other expenses without receiving their salaries. “We urge the UT Ladakh administration and other stakeholders to take the necessary steps to ensure timely disbursement of our salaries,” he added.
Sajjad Hussain, another teacher from the Samagra Shiksha prolonged delay in salary, noting that they have been working for the past five months without pay. Citing the Payment of Wages Act of 1936, he asserted, “We must get our wages on time. We perform our duties diligently from 10 AM to 4 PM, and we are here to demand our rights.”
