Secretary Sports reviews arrangements for 2nd LG Horse Polo Cup Championship 

The event will be inaugurated by LG Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur on October 08 and will continue till October 12

KARGIL, OCTOBER 04, 2022: Secretary, Youth Services & Sports Department, UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar today chaired a virtual meeting with concerned officers from his office chamber regarding the 2nd LG Horse Polo Cup Championship 2022 to be held in Drass.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Joint Director Sports, UT Ladakh, Joint Director Information Department, Superintending Engineer PWD, Kargil, SDM Drass, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh and Kargil, Deputy Secretary Culture Academy, Kargil, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh and Kargil, AD Information Kargil, President Horse Polo Club, Leh and Kargil.

The meeting discussed all the necessary arrangements and preparations related to the 2nd LG Horse Polo Cup Championship which will be organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh in collaboration with District Administration Kargil and Polo Promotion Committee Drass.

The event will be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur on October 08 and will continue till October 12.

The Secretary Sports said that polo is a traditional game of Ladakh and in order to revive it the department is organizing the LG Horse Polo Cup at Drass for the second time.

He said the event will promote sports among the youth of UT Ladakh adding that it will also promote the tourism sector and will bring Drass on the tourism map of India.

The Secretary stressed that the LG Horse Polo Cup should be organized successfully and directed the concerned officers to put in place all the basic amenities during the championship.

A threadbare discussion was held on various aspects of the tournament. Besides that various decisions were taken and responsibilities were assigned to the concerned officials.

He directed the concerned officers for the clearance of the polo ground, deputation of medical team from the health and animal husbandry department, invitation for college and school students and ethnic cultural groups. Secretary Ravinder also suggested to invite one ethnic-cultural group from Kashmir on the closing ceremony. He also directed the concerned officer to invite the best Horse Polo Team from Gurez, Kashmir to participate in the event.

During the meeting, it was also informed that a total of 17 teams are expected to participate in the event including 10 from Drass, four from Leh, one from Sapi, one from Mundik, Bodhkharboo and one from Gurez Valley of Bandipora, Kashmir.
