SKUAST- Kashmir conducts Extension Programme on Management of High Value Floriculture Crop in Ladakh

KARGIL, November 04: In an attempt to inculcate the Scientific temper and field experiences among the progressive farmers, SHG, agri-enterpreneur and FPO in Kargil & Leh district of UT Ladakh, SKUAST-K Shalimar, division of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture organised training programme on Management of High Value Floriculture Crop in UT, Ladakh .

The programme was fully sponsored by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Developement Authority (APEDA).

To make this 6 days event more scientific and meaningful, Scientist from SKUAST ponder their opinion and share their valuable experiences through various modes like Power Point Presentation (PPT) and on field training to the participants.

During the event, Dr Z.A. Bhat was the Chief Cordinator of the programme, along with Dr. Riyaz and Dr. Zahoor Rather as resource person.

The programmme begun with the formal introduction of the three days orientation programmme at KVK Kargil-1 & DIC Leh.

Mohd Abass, Convenor, Research Scholar, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture motivated the participants towards the scope of Floriculture in Ladakh through lectures and discussions, more specifically on cultivation of Lilium and Gladiolus.

On the final day of the training programme participants were taken at several places in Kargil & Leh town to give the first hand practical experience of the cultivation and propagation of two representative crops such as Lilium & gladiolus.

The organisers extended gratitude to Dr. Mehdi, Principal Scientist and head, KVK Kargil-1st & director DIC Leh for providing accomdation as well as APEDA for sponsoring the programme.

They also felt the need of such programmes to be sponsored and conducted by APEDA and other progressive organisations in future, so to make the agriculture as one of the sustainable practices in Ladakh.
