State Hub for Empowerment of Women, Ladakh conducts POSH workshop
Leh, August 31: The State Hub for Empowerment of Women, under the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh conducted a workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) with the employees of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Leh.
The aim of the programme was to create awareness regarding Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace and gender-based violence in Ladakh. The programme began with the State Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, Sonam Yangzom, explaining about the various schemes under Mission Shakti, like One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao etc.
Gender Specialist, Deachen Angmo gave a detailed presentation about sexual harassment of women in workplace. She focussed on the expansive definition of the term โsexual harassmentโ, the instances that constitute sexual harassment through audio visual-aid, roles and responsibilities of members of the Internal Committee/Local Committee. She used references of watershed cases and landmark judgements to contextualize the current Act and the amendments made in the criminal laws. Further, she stressed on the importance of having posters in the public domain to create visibility regarding the issue of sexual harassment as well as to convey zero tolerance for sexual harassment. During the Q/A session, there was a lively discussion on the understanding of gender and gender-based violence in the context of Ladakh.
The programme ended with Research and Training Specialist, Tashi Lamo giving a vote of thanks and collecting feedback from the audience.
