Kargil, Ladakh:
The Rural Development Department, Union Territory of Ladakh, successfully organized a Two-Day Capacity Building Programme on Women-Friendly and Child-Friendly Panchayats for Panchayat Secretaries at the Cooperative Meeting Hall, Baroo, Kargil.
The programme aimed to strengthen the capacities of Panchayat Secretaries by sensitizing them to the concepts of gender equity, child rights, inclusive governance, and participatory planning at the grassroots level. The sessions focused on creating Panchayats that are responsive to the needs of women and children, ensuring their safety, participation, and access to essential services.
Resource persons delivered interactive sessions on topics such as women-centric planning, child-friendly governance frameworks, convergence of schemes under the Rural Development Department, legal provisions related to women and child welfare, and best practices for inclusive Panchayat functioning. Group discussions and practical case studies were also conducted to enhance understanding and implementation at the village level.
Officials emphasized the crucial role of Panchayat Secretaries in translating policies into action and encouraged them to adopt a holistic and people-centric approach while implementing development programmes. The participants actively engaged in the discussions and shared field-level experiences and challenges.
The programme concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment of the Rural Development Department, UT Ladakh, towards empowering grassroots institutions and promoting sustainable, inclusive, and equitable rural development across the region.
