World Tuberculosis Day observed at CHC Sankoo

Kargil, March 24, 2023:

Like in other parts of Kargil, World Tuberculosis Day was observed at TU 2nd Community Health Center Sankoo with the theme ‘Yes! We can end TB!’.

On the occasion, Tohir Hussian Sagar PRI member Sankoo was the chief guest. The function was attended by Block Medical Officer, CHC Sankoo, Dr Ghulam Hussain, Medical Officer, Dr Tariq Inayat, CHO CHC Sankoo, Stanzing Dolma, CHO of H&WC Barsoo, Najuma Banoo, Gulzar Hussain (STLS), Mohd Isaaq (STS) Treatment Unit 2nd of CHC Sankoo, JHI, LHV, Paramedic staff CHC and students of Govt. Higher Secondary School Sankoo were present at the event.

The chief guest highlighted the significance of the day and said the day is observed annually to raise awareness among people about the health, financial and societal consequences of TB.

The resource persons included Dr Tariq Inayat, Stanzing Dolma, Najuma Banoo. During the program, Dr Tariq briefed about the importance of celebrating World TB Day.

He said the day commemorates to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB and stepping up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

On the occasion, Najuma Banoo said on this day in 1882, TB Bacillus was discovered by Dr Robert Koch, a German Bacteriologist for which he was awarded Nobel Prize in 1905.

BMO Sankoo, Dr Ghulam Hussain highlighted the importance of the day and talked about the measures being taken worldwide to eliminate tuberculosis.

As per the official figures there are some 38 cases that are under treatment at TU 2nd CHC Sankoo, while 12 cases are going under treatment in Sankoo Block.
