ALSWAJ Executive Members Meet with CEC Kargil to Urge Fulfillment of Student Demands

KARGIL JULY 03 : The executive members of the All Students Welfare Association Jammu (ALSWAJ) recently met with the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of Kargil to urge the fulfillment of several pressing demands of students from Kargil studying in Jammu. The meeting focused on addressing issues that have been pending for the welfare and academic progress of the students.

The ALSWAJ representatives emphasized the urgent need for the renovation of the Kargil Boys Hostel in Channi Rama, Jammu. Despite the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the renovation remains pending, causing significant inconvenience and discomfort to the students residing there. They urged for an expedited renovation process to provide a better living environment.

The member also highlighted the delay in the declaration of results for Contractual Lecturers 2024. Despite the completion of necessary procedures, the results are still pending, causing undue stress and uncertainty among the students. ALSWAJ requested the urgent declaration of these results to alleviate the students’ concerns.

Allocation of funds to ALSWAJ for the publication of its annual magazine. The magazine serves as an importantplatform for student expression, highlighting activities, achievements, and issues. However, the allocation of funds for this purpose has been pending for the last 2-3 years. ALSWAJ requested immediate financial support to continue the publication.

The safety and well-being of female students were also discussed. The Kargil Girls Hostel in Sidhra, Jammu, is located in an area with inadequate transportation and safety issues. ALSWAJ requested the provision of a mini ambulance to address any medical emergencies promptly and ensure the safety of the students. Additionally, they requested the installation of a solar lighting system to improve the safety and security of the hostel area.
The closure of the GDC Kargil Campus in Sankoo was strongly condemned by ALSWAJ. They stated that the closure is a direct attack on the Right to Education, pushing the community into darkness by depriving students of essential educational opportunities. ALSWAJ urged immediate steps to reopen the campus and ensure the continuation of educational services.

Furthermore, ALSWAJ requested the provision of air conditioners to the library and upper multipurpose hall of the Kargil Boys Hostel, Jammu. The lack of air conditioning makes it difficult for students to study and conduct activities during summer months. They requested the installation of air conditioners.

The ALSWAJ representatives also raised concerns about the difficulties students face in gaining admission to nursing colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, despite clearing entrance exams. They requested immediate intervention to ensure that deserving students can secure admission without undue obstacles.

The CEC assured the ALSWAJ members of possible help and support in addressing these issues.
