2-day training program for homestay owners begins in Kargil

Kargil, March 19, 2023: A two-day training program organized by the Tourism Department Kargil for homestay owners of Kargil district rolled out today at Auditorium Hall.

On the first day, Assistant Director (AD) Tourism, Aga Syed Toha, Assistant Tourism Officer (ATO) Ghulam Rasool Lal, trainers, trainees and other concerned officials were present.

While speaking on the occasion, AD Tourism said the program is aimed to give skilled training to homestay owners and hoped that it will benefit them.

The program will focus on the prerequisites to be a homestay owner, what a guest expects from a homestay, how to run a profitable homestay, a home living environment, maintaining hygiene and other aspects.

The Tourism Department has introduced Home Stay Policy in Ladakh and is introducing it in every village. It will boost the economy of the region and rural people.

The concept of the scheme is to give tourists a homestay atmosphere in a local style. Tourists will be provided with local ethnic food and can get local taste with culture and lifestyle.

ATO, Ghulam Rasool Lal in his welcome speech briefed about the various aspects of the homestays. He said for the second batch, around 290 homestay owners were identified to provide necessary training and trainees will get homestay kits.

The kit will include furniture, bed, mating and other necessary items for one room. He requested the newly selected homestay owners to take maximum benefit of the program.

While talking about the objectives of the homestay policy, he said it will provide a new dimension and thrust to ethnic homestay facilities and will provide employment opportunities to the local youth.

It will also bring a traditional Ladakhi culture and sustainable way of life to the fore and will promote renewable energy-based tourism in Ladakh, he added.

Bilal Ahmad, a trainee gave a presentation on customer service. He taught various aspects of hospitality from personal hygiene to interaction with the guest (tourist).

An interactive session was also held in which participants put forth their queries to which the trainers gave them satisfactory answers.
