By UT Administration Ladakh approves enhancement in ex-gratia compensation for livestock loss due to depredation by wildlife

The Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh has vide a recent order enhanced the ex-gratia compensation for livestock loss due to depredation by wildlife.
The increase in ex-gratia compensation approved by the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh has come into effect from 6th May, 2021.
According to the order issued by the Chief Wildlife Warden, UT Ladakh, the new rates approved in case of Yak/Demo above 3 years has been fixed as Rs 15000, Yak/Demo below 3 years Rs 4500, Dzo/Dzomo above 3 years Rs 15000, Dzo/Dzomo below 3 years Rs 5000, Sheep Adult above 1.5 years Rs 5000, Sheep Young below 1.5 years Rs 1750, Goat Adult above 1.5 years Rs 5000, Goat Young below 1.5 years Rs 1750, Horse/Mule above 3 years Rs 17500, Horse/Mule below 3 years Rs 10000, Donkey above 3 years Rs 3500, Donkey below 3 years 1750, Cow(Crossbreed) above 3 years Rs 20000, Cow (Crossbreed) below 3 years Rs 5000, Cow (Local) above 3 years Rs 5000, Cow (Local) below 3 years Rs 4000, Camel above 1-2 years Rs 25000, Pashmina Goat (Adult) above 1.5 years Rs 7500 and Pashmina Goat (Young) below 1.5 years Rs 5000.
The order further states that completion of compensation case will be subject to procedures which state that the aggrieved person has to inform concerned Wildlife Guard with (photograph) within 5 days of the occurrence of the incident. He shall apply for compensation in case of domestic animal depredation by wild carnivores within 10 days, adding the application should be supported by/attested by village Sarpanch/ Nambardar/Panch.
The Wildlife Guard will visit the site as early as possible and will collect relevant details including on-site photographs and G.P.S coordinates of the site and will report to the concerned Range Officer /Block Officer with his written report within 7 days, the order reads.
The order states that in case of inconclusive evidence about cause of death of the animal, the applicant will be informed and he would be required to approach Animal/Sheep Husbandry Department for onsite post-mortem and will submit post-mortem report to the concerned Wildlife Warden within 7 days positively.
The concerned Range Officer, after completion of all codal formalities, will submit the case in the office of the Wildlife Warden within 15 days and within 30 days in case d inaccessibility of the area if the incident has happened in far flung areas.
The Wildlife Warden shall process the case within 15 days for approval, the order states.
