Kargil, December 5, 2025:

The 6th Senior Men’s State Handball Championship commenced today at the Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, setting the stage for a high-voltage contest between leading teams from both Leh and Kargil districts. A total of eight teams—four from each district—are competing for top honours in this year’s much-awaited sporting event.
The opening ceremony featured a distinguished lineup of guests. Former Executive Councillor and Councillor Choskore Nasir Hussain Munshi presided as Chief Guest, while Advocate Khadim Hussain, Councillor Baroo, attended as Guest of Honour. Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Nominated Councillor, joined as Special Guest.

Several prominent sports officials also graced the occasion, including Shamim Kacho (Vice President, Ladakh Archery Association), Haji Mohd Ali Rangyoul (President, AKTTA), Anayat Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association), Stanzin Phalgais (Joint Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), Baqir Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), and Mohd Yaseen (President, Kargil Handball Association).
The tournament was officially declared open when the Chief Guest passed the ball, symbolically initiating the competition.
In his remarks, Nasir Hussain Munshi lauded both district handball associations for their consistent efforts in nurturing young athletes and assured them that he would advocate for their concerns at appropriate administrative levels.

Addressing the gathering, Advocate Khadim Hussain expressed gratitude to the Handball Association for hosting the championship in Kargil and promised continued cooperation for future sporting initiatives.
Special Guest Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan spoke about the challenges faced by sports organizations due to limited government support, urging associations to actively seek assistance while commending their efforts to guide youth toward constructive activities and away from harmful influences.
Kargil Handball Association President Mohd Yaseen highlighted the organization’s track record, noting its successful conduct of state-level championships for both men and women over the past five years, along with the regular participation of Kargil teams in national competitions.
With strong teams, enthusiastic crowds, and growing regional interest, the championship is expected to deliver thrilling matches and further strengthen Kargil’s emergence as an important centre for sports in Ladakh.
