Assessment Camp for Senior citizens, PwDs held at Khaltse
Leh, April 06: Social Welfare Department, Leh in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) organised an assessment camp for the Senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) of Khaltse block under Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) Scheme at SDM Conference Hall Khaltse today.
Around 100 beneficiaries, including both senior citizens and PwDs were assessed during the said camp.
Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Leh, Thinles Dorjay highlighted the importance of organising the assessment camp besides disseminating information and awareness in regard to the measures taken by the government for the welfare of the specially-abled persons from time to time.
Doctors from ALIMCO, Dr Amit Kumar (Prosthesis and Orthopaedic); Dr. Anil Kumar (Audiologist), Dr Ramesh Kumar (Prosthesis & Orthopaedic); Mohit Kumar (Data man) and Doctors from SNM Hospital Leh, Dr Padma Angmo (Psychiatrist); Dr Lobzang Dawa (ENT) and Dr Mutup Angmo (Eye specialist) assessed all the disabled beneficiaries and their requirement of assistive devices.
It was informed that assistive devices and rehabilitation aids such as Wheelchairs, Hearing aids, Lower Limb Orthotics Calipers (Knee Braces), Lower and Upper Limb Prosthetics (artificial leg and hand), Walking sticks/cane, etc will be provided to the senior citizens and specially-abled persons during a distribution camp later.
Sarpanch Khaltse, Nawang Rigzin welcomed the ALIMCO team with traditional khataks.
Concerned officials and staff from SNM Hospital Leh and Social Welfare Department Leh were also present during the camp.
It is pertinent to mention that similar assessment camps intended for the senior citizens and differently-abled persons will be held in other subdivisions such as Nubra, Durbuk and Nyoma on April 8th, April 10th and April 12th respectively.
