ADC Kargil visits flood-affected areas of Drass, directs concerned officials to assess damage, remain alert

Kargil, July 22, 2023:

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani today visited flood-affected areas of Drass Sub-Division to takefirst-hand appraisal of the situation.

 

The ADC accompanied by Tehsildar, Drass, BDO Drass, concerned Officers/Officials of Mechanical, Irrigation, R&B and local PRIs paid a visit to flood-affected villages like Youlboo, Goshan, Bairas, Hajipora, Ulbarus and Muradbagh areas of Drass.

 

At Youlboo, the ADC inspected the irrigation canal which has been blocked due to flash floods and directed the concerned officials to remove remnants from Nallah to avoid floods.

 

He visited Goshan and inspected the Horse Polo Ground Drass, Children Park and Ice-Hockey Rink where the walls of the ground have been partially damaged by flash floods. The ADC instructed the concerned officials to assess the damage and report it to the committee.

 

He also visited the main irrigation canal at Goshan which was blocked by the flash floods caused by cloud bursts. The ADC directed the concerned departments for the immediate restoration of irrigation canal for the crop fields.

 

He visited Baras Hajipora and inspected the irrigation canals blocked due to flash floods and directed for the immediate restoration of irrigation for crop fields.

 

At Hajipora, besides the crops and grass, the under-construction road has also been damaged due to flash floods.

 

The ADC visited Ulbarus and directed the concerned officers for the immediate restoration of irrigation for crop fields and also instructed the concerned for trailing of Nallah.

 

In response to the request of the locals of Ulburus, the ADC directed PHE for the installation of submersible pumps in the village to overcome the shortage of drinking water.

 

He also visited Muradabad and directed Irrigation Department for the immediate repairing of the main irrigation canal Tingul Kul partially damaged by flash floods.

 

The ADC stressed on the concerned departments to stay alert in case of any eventuality and directed for temporary restoration of blocked irrigation canals and strictly instructed for the trailing of Nallahs which are prone to flash floods.

 

Pertinently, the flash floods triggered by cloud bursts have caused minor damage to crops, grass, roads, parapet walls, Horse Polo Ground Drass etc.
