Agriculture Department organizes training-cum-awareness camp at Lalung village

CEC advises farmers to use organic fertilizers, vermicompost for better produce

Kargil, September 16, 2022: Agriculture Department Kargil today organized a day-long training-cum-awareness camp at Lalung village where Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan was present as chief guest.

Executive Councilor Health and Agriculture, Mohsin Ali, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan, District Agriculture Officer, Ashiq Hussain Basharat, Sub Division Agriculture Officer Kargil, Mohd Hussain, Dr Nasreen of KVK Kargil, CDPO Kargil Parveen Akhtar, Sarpanchs, Panchs, large number of villagers also attended the training program.

On the occasion, the CEC thanked the Agriculture Department Kargil and other allied departments for conducting the awareness camp in Lalung village.

Khan said such awareness programs will give exposure to the farming community regarding modern, organic ways and techniques of farming.

The CEC said Lalung village has immense potential in terms of successful greenhouse vegetable production and cultivation of local pea. He said the production of pea in large quantity will help to boost the local economy.

Khan stressed villagers to install greenhouse projects for which LAHDC will help to provide the greenhouses on subsidy.

Reiterating the vision of UT Ladakh to make the region organic till 2025, the CEC advised farmers to avoid use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture fields and maximize the use of organic fertilizers and also use compost for better produce.

Khan said it is important for the farmers to remain updated with modern agriculture and farming techniques that add more value to the agricultural produce.

He also said that organic products have huge market value and farmers should sell their products in the market as many farmers are doing the same.

Khan said that the LAHDC will provide every support to the local farmers and provide a suitable market to sell their produce.

The CEC said, last year, Apricot of Kargil district made its way to the National and International markets.

The CEC thanked ICDS and Health Department for installing stalls for imparting awareness about schemes regarding health and nutrition for children and mothers.

On the occasion, EC Mohsin highlighted the role played by the women community in the farming sector. He said it is important to impart awareness to women regarding organic farming so that they practice the same in their farms.

The EC also requested the farmers to take maximum benefit of the awareness camp and try to implement the technique and ways of organic farming in their fields.

Earlier, resource persons from KVK Kargil and Agriculture Department gave awareness about ways of organic farming and vermin-compositing techniques.

Enroute to Kargil, the CEC also visited Govt. Primary School, Lalung. The headmaster of the school apprised CEC Khan about the shortage of classrooms, development of playfield, compound walling and repairing of old school building.

Khan gave a patient hearing to all the projected demands and assured redressal of all the issues of the school at the earliest.
