Agriculture Dept. organizes Ladakh Organic Fair 2024 in Kargil

Kargil, Feb 17, 2024: Department of Agriculture, LAHDC Kargil on Friday organized Ladakh Organic Fair 2024 organized at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon was the chief guest on the occasion besides Executive Councilor, Social Welfare/Agriculture LAHDC, Kargil, Aga Syeed Mujtaba Mussavi, Executive Councilor I&FC/PHE, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohammad Feroz, ADC Kargil Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil, Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan, Principal Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Akhone Mehdi, progressive farmers and concerned officers were present during the event.

In his address, the CEC highlighted the drawbacks of chemical fertilizers and emphasized the significance of organic farming. He stated that organic fertilizers enhance soil fertility, resulting in healthy crops.

The CEC hailed the participation of huge number of farmers in the event and said it speaks about the success of the event. He expressed happiness over the fact that now fresh vegetables are available in Kargil in winter season which was impossible in earlier times and credited it to Agriculture Department, Kargil.

CEC Dr Jaffer also informed about the efforts of the LAHDC towards effective vegetable marketing and underscored the Council’s prioritization of the agricultural sector.

On the occasion, EC Agriculture, Aga Syeed Mujtaba Mussavi expressed happiness over the success of organic farming and expressed hope that it will reach its heights in helping the farming community. He addressed the intertwining of Islam and agriculture, alongside discussing government policies aimed at agricultural improvement.

The EC emphasized collective efforts to promote locally grown vegetables and reduce dependency on imports. He also informed about the LAHDC’s efforts to boost the subsidy component in the agricultural sector.

While speaking on the occasion, EC I&FC and PHE, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohammad Feroz congratulated the Agriculture Department and progressive farmers. He attributed the availability of fresh winter vegetables to their dedication and hard work.

He urged farmers to prioritize cash crops for agricultural prosperity. He lauded the contributions of Besij Ziraat and other organizations in advancing the agriculture sector. His remarks highlighted the importance of diversifying crops and recognizing the supportive role of agricultural organizations.

Principal Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Akhone Mehdi spoke at length about the demerits of chemical fertilizers and merits of organic farming.

He asked the farmers to learn best practices of farming and asserted to use homemade vermicompost to promote sustainable organic farming.

Earlier, CAO Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan presented welcome address and thanked the participants and dignitaries for gracing the occasion.

He talked about the objectives of the program and highlighted the schemes and success of the department.

During the event, Ranthag Theatre Group captivated the audience with a short drama, shedding light on various schemes of the Agriculture Department. Their performance served as an informative and engaging medium.

In the end, exceptional progressive farmers were felicitated who excelled under the Aatma scheme, alongside honoring the best Ladakh Green House practitioners by dignitaries. In turn, the dignitaries were honored by Agriculture Department officials.

Pertinently, the vegetables produced from Ladakh Green House were displayed during the event at different stalls and were later sold to the masses.
