Leh, January 15:

A delegation of the All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA) called on the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, at the UT Secretariat in Leh to discuss key issues affecting the tourism and hospitality sector in the region.
The delegation was led by ALHGHA President Rigzin Wangmo Lachic, accompanied by executive members of the association.
Key Issues Raised by ALHGHA

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting several priority concerns and policy-level requests aimed at strengthening tourism while ensuring environmental sustainability in Ladakh.
One of the major issues raised was the need to improve air connectivity to Ladakh and the relaxation of international travel advisories, which the association said are crucial for reviving inbound tourism and boosting the local economy.
The delegation also urged the administration to simplify hotel and guest house registration and compliance procedures, making them more user-friendly and efficient for local stakeholders.
Environmental & Infrastructure Concerns Highlighted

ALHGHA members expressed serious concerns regarding sewage management and the implementation of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) guidelines in Leh, emphasizing the importance of environmentally responsible infrastructure in the ecologically fragile Himalayan region.
In addition, the delegation highlighted several pressing infrastructure gaps, including:
Lack of public convenience facilities across Ladakh Rapid increase in the feral dog population, posing safety and sanitation challenges Need for a robust waste management system, especially in rural and emerging tourist destinations
Chief Secretary Assures Support
Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured the delegation that all genuine issues would be examined in consultation with the concerned departments.
He reaffirmed the Ladakh Administration’s commitment to promoting tourism in a sustainable, responsible, and environmentally sensitive manner, and assured that appropriate steps would be taken to address the matters highlighted by ALHGHA.
