CEC Feroz Khan inaugurates 6-day training program for artisans

Kargil, March 15, 2023: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan today inaugurated the six-day training program for artisans under the project ‘IT-Enabled incubation center for Handicraft and Handloom Sector’, at NIELIT Center, Kargil.

Executive Councilor, Social Welfare, Syed Mehdi Fazily, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Councilor Minji-Baroo in LAHDC, Kargil Sheikh Ghulam Mehdi, Joint Director Information, Ladakh/Additional Secretary Higher Education Department, Imteeaz Kacho, Director NIELIT Kargil Phunsog Toldan, Training Coordinator, Kaniz Fatima, trainers from Maharashtra and Gujarat, artisans besides concerned officers were present during the ceremony.

On the occasion, the CEC expressed happiness over the craftsmanship of artisans and said their work will boost only after learning required technology which is the demand of time.

Khan said that considering the demands of the market, artisans need to learn about e-commerce and should focus on packaging, marketing and e-billing.

The CEC asked the concerned of NIELIT to conduct an assessment of trained persons from NIELIT, whether they are working in the field after getting the due training, so that future policies could be shaped accordingly

He reiterated that the training and investment in human resources should be done in the solar technology sector, as it has already progressed in Ladakh to a larger extent.

On the occasion, DC Santosh Sukhadeve said in order to empower female artisans, the UT Administration has been organizing various workshops and training programs and this program is a part of that vision.

The DC Kargil said in the present age is of information technology, the artisans must get acquainted with the tricks of the trade to excel further.

The DC said the Handicraft and Handloom sector has a huge potential in Kargil considering the boom in the e-commerce sector.

He also expressed hope that soon all villages of Kargil will get digitally connected due to the installation of 99 BSNL cellular towers which will further benefit the masses at large.

Councilor Baroo-Minji, Sheikh Ghulam Mehdi expressed happiness that after the formation of UT, artisans are getting benefited and receiving the required training. He asked the artisans to enhance their skills and to take maximum benefits from the training program.

Earlier, Director NIELIT Kargil, Phunsok Toldan presented the welcome speech and a presentation on the endeavors of the institute and activities undertaken since its establishment in the district.
