DC Leh convenes meeting to discuss implementation of School Health & Wellness Programme

Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse, who is also the Chairman of the Coordination Committee School Health Programme, convened a meeting regarding the implementation of the School Health and Wellness Programme under Ayushman Bharat to improve the health of school children in Leh district.

District Immunization Officer (DIO), Leh, Dr Iqbal Ahmad, gave a detailed presentation on the vision and objectives of the programme. He highlighted and specified the functioning of the programme at different levels, i.e. district, block and school level.

DIO, Leh, Dr Iqbal stressed the need for obtaining the list of schools- mainly upper primary and secondary schools under the School Health Programme and the list of School Health and Wellness Ambassadors (SHWA), which play a pivotal role in disseminating quality information regarding the programme. He shared the details of the district training plan for the orientation of Principals and training of the SHWA for successfully implementing the said programme.

DC Leh, Shrikant Suse directed the concerned officers to submit the required details at the earliest to the office of the DIO Leh. Stressing the significance of this programme, DC Leh instructed that the resource materials should include videos in local language for the effective dissemination of health and wellness information in schools. He also directed to ensure that the training is conducted by strictly complying with Covid Appropriate Behaviour and preparing a week-wise schedule of the same and informed that the training would start once the Covid situation improves.

Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Chief Education Officer, Leh; DIO Leh; Principal, DIET, Leh; President, Sahodaya Complex of CBSE Schools, Leh; President, Private Schools (JK Board) and representatives of National Health Mission attended the meeting.
