District-level ‘Good Governance Week’ program held in Kargil

Kargil, Dec 23, 2022:

As part of various programs under Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav, ‘Good Governance Week’ with the theme ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur’ was observed today at Auditorium Hall, Kargil during which different departments presented their success stories and achievements.

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan was the chief guest. Executive Councilor, RD, Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani, Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho, Director Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, Dr. Kaneez Fatima, District Officers and concerned officers from various departments were present during the event.

In his address, the CEC said Good Governance should not be restricted to a week adding that around the year efforts should be made to reach out to people by the concerned departments and officers to provide Good Governance to the public. He said people working in government, as well as the private sector, must understand their responsibilities.

Khan said Kargil District has achieved a lot in the development sector in the last 75 years and all stakeholders need to come forward to visualize and draft district vision document for the district at 2047.

The CEC asserted that future developments cannot be designed in a hazardous manner mentioning that Kargil is facing problems to rectify the wrongdoings done under Urban Development. Moreover, he said development of other small towns of the district need to be executed in a proper manner.

In his welcome address, DC Santosh briefed the audience about the importance of ‘Good Governance Week’. He also shared various initiatives and programs being carried out by the District Administration in providing governance at the doorsteps of people during the ‘Good Governance Week’.

DC Santosh said India has achieved remarkably in the last 75 years in economic development, human development index, education, life expectancy, geopolitics etc.

DC Kargil reiterated on the need to draft Vision Document for Kargil at 2047 and reflected on the challenges to the district particularly regarding climate change, skilled and unskilled jobs for youth, economic and sustainable development.

Later, a panel discussion regarding the Vision Document at 2047 for the district and achievements and works undergoing in various sectors in Kargil were discussed in detail.

Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho moderated the panel discussion. Panellists included Director Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, Dr. Kaneez Fatima, Assistant Labour Commissioner Kargil Razia Khatoon, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Munawar Hussain Wazir, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Niyaz Ul Hasnain and Assistant Professor GDC Kargil, Dr. Javed Iqbal Naqi.

During the program, the concerned officers of PHE, Health and Rural Development Department presented PowerPoint presentations and presented videos about various developmental activities and achievements in their respective departments. Moreover, the success stories of other departments were also screened through videos.

ADC Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani presented vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the concerned officers and officials of all departments for making the event and ‘Good Governance Week’ celebrations successful across the district. Headquarter Assistant to DC Kargil, Arifa Iqbal Lone, conducted the program proceedings.
