A meeting to deliberate on the traffic management planning of Leh town was chaired by the Divisional Commissioner, Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, with the participation of senior officers related with traffic management and town planning.
SP Traffic, Rafiq Giri made a detailed presentation on the main traffic pressure points in Leh city. He apprised the Divisional Commissioner that Traffic Enforcement Squads and Traffic personnel are deployed at all these pressure points to check wrong parking for smooth regulation of traffic.
In order to streamline the existing parking issues, eleven new roadside paid parking were notified. In order to minimize road accidents at night, the Divisional Commissioner instructed the Director, Urban Local Bodies, Dr. Zahida Bano to cover all the dark spots/ black spots with the installation of street lights and signages with retroreflectors. The Divisional Commissioner instructed all the executing departments viz. PWD, VIJAYAK, NHIDCL, HIMANK to install signages, retroreflectors and Zebra crossings in their respective jurisdiction. It was also advised to project HIMANK to install road studs from the Petrol Pump up to Choglamsar on both sides of the road.
In order to give more space to pedestrians, especially in and around Leh market area, no roadside parking of vehicles shall be allowed at undesignated places. All the heavy vehicles shall be allowed into the market area, including army trucks only from 10 pm till 8 am.
Biswas impressed upon the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, and Municipal Committee to shift the pick points of passengers for buses and tempos from congested areas.
