‘Good Governance Week’: Awareness program on gender equality held at Drass

Kargil, Dec 22, 2022: As part of ‘Good Governance Week’ celebrations being observed across Kargil district under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), themed “Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur”, an awareness program on gender equality was held today at Drass.

The program was held under BDO Drass at Dak Bungalow, Drass. The program was attended by ACD Kargil, BDC Drass, BDO Drass, ZEO Drass, resource person from Special Cell for Women, Khadim Hussain, Amin Social Worker, Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs, Sarpanches and Panches.

At the onset of the celebration, the BDO Drass presented welcome speech. The ACD in his address highlighted the importance of ‘Good Governance Week’.

He said District Administration is committed to reach out to people at their doorsteps in rural areas and resolve all issuer related to all schemes run by Govt. of India and UT Administration.

Regarding gender equality and discrimination against men as well as women in society, he said it is because of social, political and economic inequality.

He informed that One Step Center has been set up in Kargil to tackle issues of women and informed people about Special Cell for Women set up in Kargil.

The ACD also said the NRLM has been already started in some blocks of Kargil and in near future, the scheme will also be started in Drass and Shargole adding that the mission will empower women economically.

On the occasion, Panchayat Account Assistant, Gulshan Ara also spoke about gender equality. She said it is not only about women rather includes all types of gender whether male, female or transgender.

She said different govt. schemes have been launched to overcome problems like reservation in Panchayat system, scholarship schemes, free courses for girls etc.

Resource person, Khadim Hussain from Special Cell for Women said a number of cases were registered at the cell and stressed on women to register their complaints in case they face any kind of issue.

BDC Drass, Noor Muhammad thanked all participants and request ADC Kargil to implement NRLM scheme as soon as possible.
