Health Department Kargil organizes orientation program on NIPI

KARGIL, JULY 04, 2022: Health Department Kargil today organized one-day orientation program for Supervisors, ANMS, HLVs, AWWS on National Iron Plus Initiative (NIPI) Program here at Auditorium Hall Kargil.

BMO Kargil Dr Fatima Nissa, DHO Kargil Dr Rubia, Dr Abdul Jaleel Wani, supervisors, Anganwadi workers besides officials of the health department were present on the occasion.

BMO Kargil Dr Fatima Nissa gave an introductory speech and spoke about the role of AWWs in management of anaemia. She said NIPI is aimed to inform and aware pregnant women and children and free them from anaemia. She said its objective is to inform adolescent boys and girls of the correct dietary practices for increasing iron intake.

NIPI was launched in 2013 as a comprehensive strategy to combat the public health challenge of Iron Deficiency Anaemia prevalent across the life cycle.

There are age-specific interventions with Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation and Deworming for improving the haemoglobin levels and reducing the prevalence of anaemia for all age groups, that is children 6-59 months, 5–10 years, adolescent girls and boys (11-19 years), pregnant and lactating women and women in reproductive age group (20 – 49 years).

DHO Kargil Dr Rubia gave a detailed presentation on anaemia clinical aspect and management. Explained in detail about anaemia, maternal anaemia and NIPI Program for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Dr Jaleel conducted the program proceedings. Later, a question and answer session was also held during which ASHA workers raised different questions which were answered by the resource person Dr Jaleel. The next program is scheduled on July 06 for school teachers.
