Horticulture Department sprays organic pesticide to control spread of yellow tail moth on apricot trees

KARGIL, MAY 17, 2022: Following the incidence of yellow tail moth disease on apricot trees in some hamlets of Shalikchay Kargil, the Horticulture Department under the supervision of Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil on Monday sprayed infested orchard trees with organic pesticide of ‘Neem Oil’ to control the pest from further spread in the vicinity.

 

The officials of the Horticulture Department undertook the program of spraying of the infested orchard trees with organic pesticide to control the pest from further spread in orchards.

 

Orchardists from the village hailed the activity and efforts of the Horticulture Department in controlling the spread of the disease which is for the benefit of farmers.

 

Later, an awareness camp was also organized and the farmers were provided all technical know-how for the management of the pest and prevent its spread to others areas around, besides discussed other needed preventive measures on the issue.

 

It was also decided that a strong vigil is required in other orchard areas across Kargil district to this effect for taking control measures accordingly on need basis in the overall interests of the farmers’ community.

 

Earlier, this month, scientists of KVK Kargil and experts of the Horticulture Department have advised the farmers in Kargil district to adopt suitable management strategies to fight the spread of brown/yellow tail moth disease on apricot trees in Kargil.
