IITs of Bombay, Delhi and Kanpur offer M.Tech and Internship to Students from Ladakh as part of collaboration between Department of Higher Education, UT Ladakh and the 3 IITs;

Leh, June 20: IITs of Bombay, Delhi and Kanpur are offering M. Tech and Internship opportunities to Students of Ladakh as part of its collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, UT of Ladakh. 30 short-term Internship, 15 long-term internship and 12 seats for the M Tech programme is being offered. Upon the successful completion of the internship programme, the students will receive a stipend of Rs. 15,000 for short-term internship and Rs.50,000 for long-term internship programme respectively while those selected for M Tech shall get a scholarship of Rs 25,000 per month. The selected candidates will be provided with boarding and lodging facilities at the IIT campuses.
The students who have completed or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering, and entrepreneurship from any institution can apply for these internships while Engineering Graduates from Ladakh can apply for the M tech programme for which students will be taken like sponsored students in IIT and hence Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) will not be a requirement to seek admission. The selection of candidates will be announced on July 4th for short-term internship, 13th July for long-term internship and 13th July for the M.Tech program. In a first-of-its-kind opportunity, the students of Ladakh can intern for 45 days (short-term) and 6 months (long-term) at the reputed Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Kanpur and Delhi. The internship programmes will not only give the students insight into their own interests but will also help them explore different opportunities, build their entrepreneurial skills and give them a valuable experience.
Engineering graduates from Ladakh can now pursue a postgraduate course in M. Tech at the three IITs. In order to build up their professional qualification, enhance their skill in engineering and technology, and create new paths for research and development the Engineers of Ladakh can pursue a post-graduate programme in M. Tech. Those pursuing M Tech under the sponsored scheme shall have to sign a bond to serve the Department of Higher Education for a specified period if offered an assignment.
These programmes are being conducted as part of the โExpression of Interestโ signed between the Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh, and the consortium of IITs last September.
