Kargil, December 17, 2025:
Continuing its efforts to keep public spaces free from illegal occupation, the District Administration Kargil on Tuesday conducted an anti-encroachment drive along the busy stretch from the Old Taxi Stand to the Bye Pass Bridge, passing through the Shaheen Bookseller area.
The drive was carried out in compliance with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, as part of an ongoing initiative to remove unauthorized encroachments from public roads and footpaths. The action aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring safe movement for pedestrians and vehicles.
The enforcement operation was jointly undertaken by the Tehsildar Kargil, Station House Officer, Police Station Kargil, officials of the Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, and the Traffic Police Kargil. During the drive, temporary and permanent encroachments obstructing public pathways were identified and addressed.
Violators found occupying public roads and footpaths were penalized, and a fine of ₹1,000 per violation was imposed in accordance with the prescribed rules.
The district administration once again urged shopkeepers and members of the public to refrain from encroaching on public land and to cooperate fully with the authorities. Officials reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue in the larger interest of maintaining public order, safety, and accessibility across Kargil town.
