Labour Department conducts weeklong inspection drive at workplaces

KARGIL, JUNE 09, 2022: Department of Labour conducted a weeklong inspection drive under labour laws at various sites of Kargil that include Zojila Tunnel, NHPC, NH-301 Zanskar-Kargil road, Kargil-Zanskar transmission line work by REC Ltd.

 

The Labour Department under the supervision of Assistant Labour Commissioner, Raziya Khatoon carried out weeklong inspection drive at various construction sites in order to ensure the implementation of labour laws at workplaces.

 

The team inspected Zojila tunnel construction site wherein the ALC interacted with labourers and inquired about their working conditions.

 

The team also visited mess area and inspected medical facilities. Later interacted with managing team and directed for proper implementation of labour laws at workplaces.

 

At the NHPC worksite, she interacted with officers, officials, NHPC workers who raised certain issues. The ALC directed the concerned officials for timely redressal of the grievances.

 

The ALC also visited Zanskar-Kargil (NH 301) road worksite wherein she interacted the workers and inspected worksite facilities provided by the companies.

 

In this regard the ALC met managing team of Topline, United Jehlum, Skylark, LNT, Tata and other companies working on the highway and directed the concerned for proper implementation of labour laws in respect of providing safety at the workplace, payment of wages as per minimum wage act and equal remuneration Act , medical facilities at workplace, emergency response system at workplace, proper implementation of SOPS’s as per the nature of work, provision of basic facilities at workplace like toilet, drinking water etc.

 

During the visit, the ALC also interacted with labourers associated with these agencies /companies and enquired about their well-being and facilities provided by the agency.

 

She directed the GM/concerned incharge of the company to resolve all labour welfare-related grievances and told the labourers to approach her in case of any grievances at the workplace.
