Meet Zahara Batool from Kargil, a recent post-graduate from Faculty of Fine Arts (with a specialisation in Sculpture), Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

Zara has been selected as the finalist for the Autumn Artist-in-Residence program that started on 3rd October 2022.

During the month long residency Zara is interested in exploring and experimenting with newly available local materials and folktales from her native.

Most of her recent work attempts to explore and capture the essence of traditional weaving methods from her region (Kargil), and tries to encapsulate her experiences with her culture and traditions from a feminine perspective.

She closely engages with the materials and weaving traditions, that are generally associated with the idea of femininity in her region and she inculcates these ideas using metal, aluminium industrial wires to talk about the notion of beauty, femininity and the subjected role of women in the society among others.
