NYK Kargil organizes district-level ‘Neighbourhood Youth Parliament’

Kargil, March 18, 2023: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Kargil today organized a day-long district-level “Neighbourhood Youth Parliament” program at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve was the guest of honour. Deputy Secretary Ladakh Academy of Art Culture and Language (LAACL) Kargil, Nazir Hussain , District Panchayat Officer, Padma Angmo, Assistant Professor, GDC Kargil Tsering Lamo and Konchok Chorol.

The CEC in his address thanked NYK Kargil for organizing such an event and also suggested organizing such a youth parliament at the block level to educate about contemporary socio-economic development issues confronting local communities in general and the youth in particular and to involve them in debates and discussions.

Khan also threw light on the importance of preserving traditional crops such as millet and its inclusion in daily diet and urged the youth to revive the traditional food culture and to study climate change and disaster risk reductions.

The CEC also informed that Kargil is dependent on glacier water and youth should be informed of precautionary measures to save the glaciers.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the organizing committee and advised the youth to take maximum benefits of the platform to realize their leadership potential. The DC Kargil thanked all the resource persons for delivering their lectures on various important topics.

During the program, mementos were also distributed among participants. During the day-long program, various sessions were held in which resources person from various backgrounds discussed about Y-20 themes and mission LiFE and the international year of millets.

During the session, Gulzar Hussain Assistant Professor, who was a resource person covered the topic on shared future: youth in democracy and governance.

Mohd Hassan shared his view on health, well-being and sport: agenda for youth followed by lecture on future of work, industry 4.0 innovation and 21st-century skills.

Dr Mohd Salim, Assistant Professor covered a session on mission LiFE. Dr Rinchan Dolkar, a woman scientist enlightened the audience about the millet and its importance.

Dr Mohd Taqi, Assistant Professor shared his views about climate change and disaster risk reduction: making sustainability a way of life.

A large number of participants both male and female from different schools, colleges and skill institutes and national youth volunteers were present in the program. Later, District Youth Officer, NYK, Jigmat Spaldon delivered the vote of thanks.
