Principal Secretary reviews progress on Medical College at Spituk Pharka, 30-bedded hospital at Tangste

Leh, February 11: Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, chaired a meeting to review the progress on infrastructure development concerning the medical college at Spituk Pharka and a 30-bedded hospital at Tangste.

The proposal is for a 100-student intake Medical College at Spituk Pharkha along with a hostel for students and a residential quarter for the staff. Giving a detailed presentation about the project/site and project analysis of the Medical College, Design Accord Consultant, Rajesh Singh said the architecture of the proposed medical college will be based on the theme of Leh Palace with a modern touch. All the buildings will be GRIHA (Green Rated for Integrated Assessment) 5 rating. The total built-up area will be 71000 sqm and the medical college will include an Academic block, Lecture theatres, an Anatomy Department, Dissection Hall, Museum, Laboratories, Student common room, medical education unit, Histology Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Pathology Lab, Cafeteria, Library, Boys and Girls hostel, staff residence, sports, and recreational facility, etc. There will be provision for future expansion as well, he added.

Further, Design Accord Consultant, Rajesh Singh also apprised the Principal Secretary about the plan for the electrical system of the Medical College.

 

All the members present also gave their recommendations. The Principal Secretary asked the concerned officials to make a rough cost estimate and also take further inputs from experts in Passive solar building. He said in a project the planning phase is crucial. That is why so many discussions are taking place for the proposed Medical College, he added.

Design Accord Consultant, Rajesh Singh also gave a detailed presentation on a 30 Bedded Multi-Specialty Hospital at Tangste. The proposed hospital will include an OPD- Out Patient Department, In-patient Department (IPD), One major operation theatre, One minor operation theatre, Gynaecology ward, Labour, Delivery, Recovery room (LDR), Nursery, Oxygenated beds, an Emergency Department and supporting areas such as Ultrasound, X-ray room, etc, he added.

Further, he said that the hospital will have facilities such as Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS), Central Heating, Laundry, Kitchen and Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), etc

Principal Secretary directed the concerned officials to submit a Detail Project Report and finalise it by Feb 20, 2022.
