The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has officially renamed “Raj Niwas Ladakh” to “Lok Niwas Ladakh”, following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
According to the notification issued by the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, Ladakh, the decision comes in pursuance of a communication from the MHA dated 25 November 2025. The order states that the name of the institution “Raj Niwas Ladakh” has been modified and redefined and shall henceforth be referred to solely as Lok Niwas Ladakh.
The notification, signed by Dr. Laltinhuma Franklin, Secretary, Raj Niwas Ladakh, comes into immediate effect.
The communication has been circulated to major constitutional offices, including:
The President of India The Vice President of India The Prime Minister’s Office The Supreme Court of India The Ministry of Home Affairs Governors and Chief Ministers of all States and Union Territories Senior administrative and police officials of UT Ladakh
Additionally, the order has been forwarded to all district-level officers, universities in Ladakh, and the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) for wide publicity.
