Scientists hold meet with DC Santosh for implementation of Popularization of Mulberry Sericulture project in Kargil

KARGIL, JUNE 21, 2022:

A team of scientists, Dr Muttanna and Dr Satish Y from Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles (GOI), Pampore, J&K and Dr Z. I. Buhroo from College of Temperate Sericulture & Research Institute (COTS), Mirgund, SKUAST-Kashmir today held meeting with Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, regarding implementation of centrally sponsored collaborative research project entitled “Popularization of Mulberry Sericulture in Kargil” for a period of two years.

In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner has shown keen interest for the popularization of mulberry sericulture and hailed the efforts made by COTS and CSB Pampore with respect to sericulture development in the district.

A detailed discussion regarding implementation of the project and expansion of mulberry wealth in the district was also discussed.

Further, establishment of quality mulberry demonstration plot in the area was discussed and it was assured that half-acre land for the purpose will be allotted.

Under the project, a demonstration of silkworm rearing technology will also be conducted for unemployed youth of the area as well as their exposure tour to CSB, Pampore and COTS, Mirgund for live demonstration of silkworm rearing technology.

In view of the successful sericulture practices in the district, DC Santosh assured full support to CSB and COTS Mirgund for smooth implementation and execution of the project.

In his concluding remarks, DC expressed his thanks to the Director, CSB Pampore, Dr. Sardar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof. Nazeer Ahmed Ganai and Associate Dean, COTS, Mirgund, Prof. M.F. Baqual for their interest in development of Sericulture in the district.

DC Santosh hoped that such efforts will continue in future for socio-economic development and upliftment of the tribal youth of Kargil.
